HISTORY
FIRST EVENT
The twins' father summoned them from a relatively happy childhood with their mother to be educated among the elves of Syngorn according to his standards. Those standards, however, always seemed to be out of reach. Their time among the elves was characterized by their father's disappointment and disapproval and the contempt of their peers. This situation lasted until finally, after one disappointment too many, the twins chose to run away. Vex internalized their father's disappointment and the unsatisfied need to prove herself to him.
SECOND EVENT
After running away from their father's home in Syngorn, the twins attempted to return to their mother in Byroden. Rather than a warm homecoming, though, they found the village in ruins and their mother killed by a dragon. Further isolated, the twins became one unit in the face of the rest of the world, regardless of their sibling bickering. It also inspired Vex to devote years of her life studying dragons.
THIRD EVENT
Now traveling with Vox Machina, Vex and the team investigated reports of an unknown creature destroying villages (and adventuring parties) in the countryside. Their search led them to meet local villagers, who told them that whatever was terrorizing the region, it attacked from the air. In their brief meeting, the team observed the simple, happy life of the village families. Shortly later the beast was revealed to be a dragon. Vox Machina barely managed to survive the encounter. The near death experience led the team to abandon the hunt since they were not prepared to fight a dragon, a stance Vex supported based on her study. That decision lasted until the crew found the village (and villagers) who they'd met prior destroyed down to the last children. At that point, Vex and the rest of Vox Machina commit to killing the dragon. This is the choice to care about people outside of herself and her brother that, in the end, puts Vex on a more heroic path and which breaks a pattern of fucking off when things get difficult.
FOURTH EVENT
Vex,Vax, and two other members of Vox Machina were forced to travel to the fey realm in search of a powerfully magical bow. There they discovered their father's home of Syngorn and their father himself. The reunion was uncomfortable, their father openly condescending to the twins. Initially Vex was inclined to defer to her father, even defending him from Vax. However when his snide behavior prompts Percy (a companion from Vox Machina) to stand up for Vex and as a result incur her father's contempt himself, Vex finally stands up to him, up to and including telling him to fuck off. While her father scorned the attempt, this confrontation contributed to Vex reassessing her relationship with both her father and Percy.
FIFTH EVENT
Still in the fey realm, Vox Machina challenged the archfey Saundor for a magical bow. Saundor isolated Vex and lavished attention on her in an attempt to tempt her not only the bow but companionship, suggesting that the two of them belonged together. Sensing her insecurities, he called her broken and unwanted. He then revealed the price of power was her heart. Vex resisted his charms, telling him that her heart belonged to another before defeating him. In conjunction with the previous, this event forced Vex to reflect on her insecurities and the way her relationship with her father left her vulnerable as well as how Percy had supported her.


ABILITIES
SKILLS
  • Ranger Skills: As a ranger, Vex has excellent survival skills, and is adept in stealth. She specializes in archery, most effective when she's picking off enemies from a distance.
  • Perception: Life has taught Vex to pay attention and be cautious. She's highly observant and excels in spotting traps and picking up details others might miss. This makes an accomplished tracker.
  • Fast Talking: Vex is naturally charismatic and often able to bluff, lie, persuade or otherwise talk herself out of sticky situations. She's also an effective—and highly motivated—haggler. That said she might not be quite as good at smooth talking as she thinks.
  • ABILITIES
  • Darkvision: Vex can see in little to no light far better than humans.
  • Fey Ancestry: Elven descent confers resistance to magical sleep and charms.
  • Sense Dragons: Vex can usually sense when she's in the presence of a dragon, an ability that manifests with a sharp headache or migraine symptoms.

    DARK FEY (diabel)
    appearance
    For Vex's full monster transformation, she takes the form of a lesser dark fey creature. She is recognizable as herself, but twisted into something delicate and strange. Her eyes are entirely black and glossy, and her features sharper and more delicate. Her ears become longer (more like those of a full elf). Her hair grows longer and is inclined to escape its braid and appears windblown. Her skin takes on a dappled, shifting quality, as though seen in dim, deep forest lighting regardless of where she is. Notably, she shrinks rather significantly, down to about 4'10, and grows a set of iridescent, insect-like wings with dark veins. There's an overall impression of an uncanny reflection, something with proportions that don't quite make sense and features that never quite settle. The kind of creature that might have a different number of teeth or knuckles every time they're counted.


    POWERS
    Flight | The wings are fully functional.
    Glamour | Charisma forceful enough to alter a nearby target's perceptions, allowing her to do things like vanish in plain sight or appear incredibly tempting. The glamour doesn't actually change Vex's appearance or the appearance of her surroundings, and can be resisted with effort.
    Elfshot | When close to fully transformed, Vex can manifest shadowy magic bow which fires an equally shadowy and intangible magic arrow. Those struck by the arrow experience no injury but incapacitating amounts of pain and localized paralysis, lasting several minutes before gradually wearing off.


    behavior
    As a fey creature, Vex is clever and capricious, inclined to be playful and vindictive by turns. She can be both easily entertained and easily insulted, and insults are repaid viciously. While she can still be said to be herself, fey Vex has neither the morality nor the insecurities which would normally keep her impulses in check, leaving her rather venal. She enjoys the forest, and prefers wild spaces to those inhabited by humans.
